What is ICC ?

the internal complaints committee is a body of persons constituted at every organisation wherein the head of the committee who would be the presiding officer shall be a woman working at a senior level in the organisation. apart from the presiding officer, the committee would comprise of at least 2 women employees who are committed to women empowerment or who have prior experience in social service. Also, one member from non-governmental organisations committed to the cause of women or any person familiar with issues relating to sexual harassment. on the whole, at least 50% of the ICC shall comprise of women members. the ICC has various functions ranging from providing assistance to women who want to file a complaint, conducting  inquiry in accordance with the provisions of law into complaint so filed, making recommendations based of the findings of the inquiry to the employer to submitting reports to the local government body on the activities of ICC in a periodic manner among other functions.

basically, the ICC  is like an in-house grievance redressal agency for dealing with complaints of harassment and sexual harassment in particular.

As per law, every organization should have an Internal Complaints Committee comprising of 5 members – 1 presiding officer (a senior woman employee of the Organization), 3 members with minimum one female employee and an external committee member who should be a female.
