Case Study

Hi my name is Anita and I am working in XYZ Technology Corporation. I have been rated as a top performer for the past 4 years and I even got the best performer award in 2015.

6 months ago I got a new manager who takes care of all India delivery for my organization

Initially the relationship with my new manager was warm and cordial. He used to wish me every day and he was friendly not only to me but to other colleagues as well.

I am a married woman with a 1 year old daughter, my husband recently got transferred to Singapore on promotion and I stay with me in laws. Many people in my company knew about my family background.

My manager was very warm initially, but his attitude changed in the last few months when he came to know about my family background. I started getting  WhatsApp messages even during odd hours, initially I had responded to his WhatsApp but I had stopped after the tone of the messages became different, which not comfortable to me.

This resulted in me getting  into unwanted confusion in my mind and resulted in tension and anxiety. I could see my focus on my daily activates is getting affected as I have to be in the same premises where that person was also working. Some days I had to apply leave and ponder over the same with no answer.

I discussed this issue with my close friend who is my college mate. She suggested that I should file a complaint with the knowledge of my in-laws to the police, I told her that in our company we have a thing called ICC and I have got a certificate on POSH. As she came to know that ICC is constituted in your company she advised me to inform ICC, as ICC is supposed to take care of these problems. Finally after a week I mustered enough courage to discuss with my human resources manager.

My Human resources manager was a very wonderful lady who had known me for a very long time. Upon my explaining the problem she comforted me, spent enough time in understanding the whole issue from my side and said will initiate suitable action.

I was called for a meeting by the ICC and they documented my grievances.

The internal complaints committee members didn't assume anything. Instead they gave me a patient hearing and promised suitable action would be taken in the coming weeks.

After my meeting with ICC, I noticed a remarkable difference in the behavior of my manager. Later I had come to know that my complaint was kept confidential. My name was not revealed to my manager.

Internal complaints committee had warned him of stern action if he indulges in the same again. This warning was sufficient for him.

I am very grateful to the internal complaints committee for keeping my name confidential and solving my problem at the earliest possible time. it had saved me from unwanted mental trauma and now I am able to concentrate in my work much more efficiently I wish to thank my organization and my internal complaints committee members and my human resources for helping me getting out of this unpleasant experience.
