Looking beyond workplace

Looking beyond workplace

The application and implication of posh dos not restrict itself to the four walls of the organization. The posh act has an over reaching application to cover instances of harassment outside the organization. Posh act also covers instances of sexual harassment outside the walls of the workplace

For instance if a women suffers harassment at the hands of any member of the organization not necessarily within the campus of the origination, the same might be covered by the Posh act if there is even a slight amount of doubt that such member of organization might have acted in the course of or as an outcome of his employment in the organization.

A women complainant can invoke the provisions of the posh act to her protection, even if the alleged act of sexual harassment took place outside the organizations premised, including a different location altogether.

It’s not unknown that onsite and corporate tours and outstation meeting are a frequent occurrence in most of the companies of today. Hence it is pertinent to note that the implication of posh act could be extended to beyond workplace.

Undoubtedly the effect and the penalties associated with any case of harassment could apply just as it happened within the organisation.

Hence for every organization effective compliance with the provisions of Posh and appropriate training is a must. Specific training programs designed for frequently travelling employees can of great help to organizations to prepare and sanitize employees to handle any unwanted situations which they might encounter when they are on an official assignment.

Looking beyond workplace becomes indispensible to corporates and their employees when it comes to complying with the provisions of the posh act. Further it’s relevant to note that under the posh act it’s mandated that every branch office of the organization should have their own LC local committee.

Only when organizations look beyond their workplace to ensure compliance and safe working of their employees can the employees in turn contribute to the development and growth of their organization

It’s necessary that every organization should instill a sense of belonging and faith, trust in their employees. That will take care of any insecurity which their employees might have with regards to their safety and security at the workplace.

Providing effective training and awareness to every member of the organization in turn providing a safe environment to every person who might get in touch with the organization is to be regarded as social responsibility of every organization.

Prevention of sexual harassment is no more a private affair, where every origination can take care of the persons on their payroll; it is responsibility whichever organization however small or large owes to the society at large, where the organization should act as a touch stone of gender sanitization and gender equality.
